The Life of a Public Minecraft Server

A public Minecraft server is an interesting thing people come and go, some of them stay. Stuff gets built, some of that stuff gets built around and it all becomes rather chaotic. It‘s a shame I didn‘t start taking screenhots of how things changes over time, but these are all I have.

We started out as a private server for just a few people with an original plan that was a bit more like most servers. The initial world looked like this, the house on the platform is mine and the one up on the hill belonged to our first member.

Things were slow at first but after a few months the world had started to fill up.

At this point we decided to go public, not being too sure how it would go we decided to create a new world for all the guests to play in. The original world was pretty boring really (thank you 1.9) we had a simple spawn island.

There is a bit of a gap here since we weren‘t planning on keeping a record, but as the original players got bored of the game and left the private world was hardly used. This is what is looked like just before we dropped it.

Another gap here, but here is a cool image I took while testing out the water shader mod.

A bit of building later and spawn was getting a bit crowded so we made the park, probably our longest standing structure.

Then it was christmas, so we had a tree :D

Time to say goodbye to another world, this time it was the members only creative. The world had become pretty cluttered and we decided to go to a flat world instead of the normal one. All of the stuff was copied across with WorldEdit, and since there was no risk of people making a mess of the landscape members were allowed to use WorldEdit to help with creative stuff.

That pretty much brings us up to now, and the current main world. Which looks like this.

You guys are awesome !

Updated for 1.2.4

That's right we are living life on the edge and using the super unstable (probably not) dev build for 1.2.4. Feel free to update your clients now.

The server chat box is now scrollable, best update so far !

Looks like 1.2.4 is out

Yep it's release time ones again and as usual there is no update for CraftBukkit yet. 1.2.4 is just a bug fix release so I would recommend holding of on updating for now. The server will be updated as soon as there is a stable (ish) version available.

Cool Build of the Week !

Made by our newest moderator, Silken_Thread. Impressive enough as it is, worth mentioneing that this was built in survival mode with no item spawning.

Finally Updated for 1.2

It actaully happened a while ago, but we are finally updated for Minecraft 1.2.

Finally Updating for 1.2

The server will be down for a while to update for 1.2, it took a while but enough things are updated now. Hurray !
